These Fall weekends are just glorious, the perfect time to get outside in the sunshine and enjoy the changing colours and cooling temperatures. While many plan a day trip to Kleinburg, Woodbridge, or Vaughan to take in the spectacular Fall colours, those lucky enough to already live in the area get to enjoy the sights the whole season through. Make some memories this autumn by spending a few leisurely hours getting out and exploring. To get you started, here are our top suggestions for what to do in Woodbridge near Rutherford Heights this weekend.
Take A Stroll Through The Picturesque Village of Kleinburg
This pretty little village is a draw year-round but Fall may just be when it’s at the height of its powers. The winding main street is lined with shops and boutiques, cafes and restaurants, spas and salons, and galleries. There are also some lovely scenic trails throughout the area. You’ll want some time to explore Downtown Kleinburg properly so you can soak everything in, take lots of photos, pop in and out of the stores, and, if not enjoy a full meal, at least pick up a seasonal treat.
Visit the McMichael Canadian Art Collection
Maybe it’s because it’s back-to-school season, but it feels like there’s no better time to visit an art gallery than the Fall. Spend a few hours wandering through the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, which has a spectacular setting that feels like you’re far away from it all. The views inside and out are inspiring, and thanks to the layout of this remarkable building you’ll feel a connection to the outdoors even as you tour the halls of the gallery. In addition to the artwork from the Group of Seven, you’ll want to check out Uninvited: Canadian Women Artists In the Modern Moment and Denyse Thomasos: Odyssey.
Woodbridge Village Farmers Market
The Woodbridge Village Farmers Market provides the community with access to quality, locally produced foods. It’s a non-profit, volunteer-run organization you can feel great about supporting and all of their farmers are located in or near the Greenbelt. The market runs every Saturday until Thanksgiving weekend and you’ll find armfuls of goodies here, including Fall fruit favourites such as blueberries, cranberries, raspberries, grapes, nectarines, peaches, pears, plums, field strawberries and watermelons. The harvest season means veggie lovers can basically take their pick, as everything is available and at its peak. New vendors include Belle’s Bakery and Weeta’s Empanadas.
Kortright Centre for Conservation
The Kortright Centre for Conservation is located on 325 hectares of woodlands and is known as both a pristine, natural oasis and an educational facility that offers a wide range of programs and events. Book an outdoor family experience here and enjoy hours exploring the trails doing self-guided hikes; dogs are welcome to come along too as long as they are on a leash. All of the trails are currently open and trail running (even picnicking!) is also permitted.
Play A Round Of Golf
There is certainly no shortage of great golf courses nearby when you live at Rutherford Heights; in fact, drive just a couple of minutes in any direction and you’re guaranteed to find one. Choose from The Country Club, Copper Creek Golf Club, and The National Golf Club of Canada, which are all conveniently located nearby. Feel like heading to the driving range to hit a bucket of balls? Try Harry Putter Golf Academy.
With all of these great ideas in hand, you’re ready to head out and enjoy these beautiful Fall weekends! Thanks for reading and be sure to follow along with the Caliber blog for more great tips on making the most of your downtime.
